Malaysia Faces Rising Cyber Threats as NEC Pushes Culture Shift with Cybersecurity Trade-Up Program

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13, 2025 – Malaysia’s digital transformation push is being undermined by a weak IT and cybersecurity culture, leaving organizations vulnerable despite improved systems. While cyber incidents fell 4% in 2024, ransomware attacks surged by 78%, with phishing driving 71% of fraud-related breaches. Even government ministries and major firms like Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad were targeted, with ransom demands reaching US$10 million.

NEC Cybersecurity Trade-Up Program

To address these threats, NEC Corporation of Malaysia (NEC Malaysia) has launched its Cybersecurity Trade-Up Program, enabling businesses to replace outdated hardware or software with the latest Fortinet solutions. The initiative offers enhanced security features such as Next Generation Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, and Zero Trust Network Access, while reducing IT costs.

NEC also provides 24/7 managed services through its Security Operations Center in Johor, delivering rapid incident response, threat prevention, and operational resilience. The company stresses that beyond technology, organizations must embrace a proactive security culture to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats.
