Penang Port Commission to License Private Jetties for Safer Operations
GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Port Commission (SPPP) is set to introduce a licensing system for private jetties within port limits to enhance maritime governance, safety, and efficiency.
Chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said joint monitoring with Penang Port Sdn Bhd identified 38 private jetties, mostly used by fishermen and for non-marine commodities. Jetty owners have been briefed on operational requirements, with engagement sessions planned to address stakeholders’ needs.
The initiative, carried out with the Royal Malaysian Customs and other agencies, aims to strengthen regulatory oversight while safeguarding Penang Port’s economic and maritime security.
