PETRONAS and Malaysia in the Global Energy Transition
KUALA LUMPUR — Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has signed a 20-year agreement with Canada’s Pembina Pipeline Corp for one million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefaction capacity at the Cedar LNG facility through their subsidiaries. Under the deal, Pembina will provide transportation and liquefaction services to Petronas LNG Ltd via a synthetic liquefaction structure.
The US$4 billion project remains on schedule and within budget, with operations expected by late 2028. Petronas said the deal secures an additional export channel for its Canadian gas assets while offering Pembina long-term, take-or-pay revenue stability. Both companies highlighted the agreement as a step toward advancing energy security and low-carbon LNG supply for Asia. Petronas vice president
Shamsairi M. Ibrahim said it strengthens the company’s global LNG portfolio and supports Asia’s growing demand for cleaner fuels. Pembina said the partnership underscores global confidence in Canadian West Coast LNG.
