Selangor Drafts Water Master Plan to Secure Supply, Combat Floods
The Selangor government is developing a comprehensive water master plan to tackle long-term water supply, pollution, and flooding issues, expected to be finalized within a year. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the plan will guide water resource management, including storage, reservoir locations, and flood control. Over 100 ponds have been identified for gazetting as strategic storage areas. The Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM), costing RM320 million, ensures stable water supply for 1.2 million accounts across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya for 50 years, mitigating climate change and pollution challenges with over 90 percent reliability.
