White House apologized to Hyundai
The partial U.S. government shutdown has officially ended after four days of political gridlock. President Trump signed a $1.2 trillion spending package on Tuesday, restoring funding to federal agencies that had been shuttered since January 31. The legislation, which passed the House in a tight 217-214 vote, secures full fiscal year funding for most government sectors and guarantees back pay for furloughed federal employees.
However, the deal is not a complete resolution. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is only funded on a stopgap basis until February 13, setting the stage for another high-stakes showdown in less than two weeks. Democrats pushed for the short-term extension to continue negotiating restrictions on DHS policies. With the immediate crisis averted, Congress now faces intense pressure to reach a consensus on immigration and border security funding before the new deadline hits.
