Jatronics Sdn Bhd, recently sanctioned by the US, is not registered under Malaysia’s Strategic Trade Act (STA) 2010, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti).
Despite being added to the US sanction list for allegedly supplying electronic components to Russian firms linked to the military, Miti asserts that Malaysia adheres to multilateral sanctions and does not list Russia under the STA. Jatronics is clarified as a trading company, not a semiconductor manufacturer.
Miti urges exporters to stay informed of trade restrictions and unilateral sanctions, while engaging with the US Embassy on the matter.
Miti clarifies U.S.-sanctioned Jatronics not registered under Malaysia’s Strategic Trade Act, emphasizing non-governmental status; urges exporters to stay informed.
The Malaysian semiconductor maker was slapped with sanctions by the United States last month for allegedly shipping important electronic parts and components to Russia.
Al Jazeera reported that Kuala Lumpur-based Jatronics Sdn Bhd was among 300 entities on the US sanctions list over their links to Russia’s military suppliers.
The report, quoting a US State Department spokesman, said some of the materials shipped by the company to Russia included Tier 1 items on the US Department of Commerce’s List of Common High-Priority Items.
