KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian semiconductor maker Jatronics Sdn Bhd has been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly supplying critical electronic components to Russia. According to Al Jazeera, Jatronics is among 300 entities on the US sanctions list for links to Russia’s military suppliers.
The US State Department highlighted that Jatronics shipped Tier 1 items, which are vital for advanced Russian precision-guided weapons systems and have limited global manufacturers. These items are of the highest concern due to their importance and Russia’s inability to produce them domestically.
Jatronics reportedly made over 50 deliveries worth more than US$3 million to Russian companies, including sanctioned OOO Planar, between April 2022 and September last year.
These shipments included microchips, semiconductors, and silicon wafers. US officials did not confirm if these components were used in Russia’s military equipment. Jatronics declined to comment on the allegations.
Previously, four Malaysian companies were sanctioned for providing components for Iran’s weapons program. Malaysia aims to be a neutral semiconductor hub amid the US-China tech war.
