Amazon’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, Zoox, launched paid commercial driverless robotaxi services in Las Vegas in August 2026 following historic regulatory clearance.[
Zoox is a custom-built, bidirectional electric “toaster-shaped” pod with no steering wheel or pedals, featuring four inward-facing seats.

Received a first-of-its-kind exemption from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to commercially deploy up to 2,500 steering-wheel-free vehicles annually.
Launched paid public rides starting August 10, 2026, in Las Vegas, following prior free testing phases.
Future rollouts are planned for San Francisco, Austin, and Miami, alongside an upcoming integration with Uber.
