Barry Callebaut Partners with Planet A Foods to Develop Sustainable Chocolate Alternatives Without Cocoa

ZURICH – Barry Callebaut, the global leader in chocolate manufacturing, has announced a long-term partnership with Germany’s Planet A Foods, creator of ChoViva, a sustainable chocolate alternative made without cocoa. The collaboration aims to meet rising demand for environmentally responsible chocolate products while reducing dependency on volatile cocoa markets.

Planet A Foods

ChoViva, produced from locally sourced crops like sunflower seeds, replicates traditional chocolate’s taste and texture with a significantly smaller environmental footprint. The partnership will leverage Barry Callebaut’s global production scale and Planet A Foods’ technological innovation to expand distribution across Europe and beyond.

Executives from both companies said the alliance complements Barry Callebaut’s sustainability goals, diversifies its product portfolio, and accelerates the adoption of next-generation chocolate solutions. The initiative marks a major step toward more resilient and ethical food systems, offering consumers indulgent yet sustainable options for the future of chocolate.
