China to Build SEA First Space Port in Pahang, Targeting 2,350 Jobs by 2030

KUANTAN: Pahang’s International Space Port, Southeast Asia’s first rocket launch site, is slated for completion within 3–5 years, said Exco Dato’ Mohamad Nizar bin Mohamad Najib. Located along the equatorial East Coast, likely in Pahang or Sabah, the project is expected to create 2,350 jobs and boost the economy, tourism, and research. The Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) signed a Letter of Intent with China Great Wall Industry Corporation and Lestari Angkasa Sdn Bhd on April 15 for strategic collaboration. A feasibility study visit to China’s Wenchang Space City is planned, alongside proposals for an aerospace city in Gebeng, Kuantan, and Pekan. The project, some say, carries strategic, economic, and geopolitical implications.
