Malaysia’s digital game industry achieved RM45 million in sales and export revenue, backed by government support from 2014 to 2024, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) approved 60 projects with RM36.7 million in funding, creating over 700 jobs.
MDEC also allocated RM163 million for digital content, supporting areas like animation, games, and comics. Gobind highlighted the industry’s potential, supported through programs such as market access initiatives, skill development, and participation in global events like the Games Developers Conference and Tokyo Game Show. Global gaming revenue is expected to reach US$213.3 billion by 2027.
“All these projects have successfully created over 700 job opportunities.
“This demonstrates the significant potential of the digital game industry in Malaysia, fostered by government support in areas such as market access, incubators, conferences, workshops and up-skilling and re-skilling programmes,” he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.
