A court heard a former Petronas manager allegedly emailed an internal business performance document to two Petros employees, leading to dismissal and criminal proceedings.
The sessions court was told that former Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) manager Khairul Akmal Jasni allegedly sent an internal company document to two Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) employees in June 2024.
Prosecution witness Jumsuri Basri, Petronas’ former industrial relations senior manager, testified that cybersecurity checks confirmed Khairul emailed the document titled “Q1 2024 Upstream Business Performance” to two Petros-linked email addresses. Investigators also found an earlier attempt to send the same file had failed because it exceeded size limits.
Jumsuri said the document was marked “internal” and required approval before being shared outside the company. He described Petros as a competitor whose access to confidential information could affect Petronas.
Khairul was suspended in December 2024, later dismissed, and subsequently charged with attempting to leak the document. However, the defence argued investigators failed to consider his claim that a colleague had possession of his laptop when the email was sent.
