Fortune 500 Maybank tops Malaysian companies
Fortune has unveiled its inaugural Southeast Asia 500 rankings for 2024, listing the largest companies in the region by revenue for the 2023 fiscal year. This new list underscores Southeast Asia’s growing importance in the global economy due to shifting supply chains and rapid economic development. The rankings feature companies from seven countries, with Indonesia leading with 110 companies.
Notably, Malaysia’s Maybank is the only company from the country to enter the top 20 by revenue at No. 17. Singapore-based Trafigura tops the list with $244 billion in sales.
The top 10 companies in. the Fortune 500 in Southeast Asia collectively generated $650 billion, accounting for over a third of the total $1.8 trillion in revenue reported by all listed companies. Despite a general decline in revenues and profits due to weak energy markets, several sectors and companies, including Indonesian miners and travel companies, showed significant growth.
The list also highlights the region’s dynamic and fast-changing business landscape, with 30 female CEOs and a significant number of young leaders. The Southeast Asia 500 rankings are part of Fortune’s global franchise, joining other regional Fortune 500 lists.
