MBPJ Backs Parking Privatisation with Conditions, Urges Safeguards on Revenue and Enforcement

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has conditionally supported the Selangor government’s plan to privatise on-street parking, stressing that parking revenue must be maintained or improved. Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon highlighted the need to safeguard income and fine-tune enforcement roles to ensure a smooth transition. Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung launched a campaign urging a review and delay of the Selangor Smart Parking System (SIP), citing transparency concerns. MBPJ remains the only council to formally oppose SIP.

Parking Privatisation

“We must ensure this privatisation does not disrupt parking operations or reduce city revenue,” said Mayor Zahri.
