PH MPs Urge Selangor to Delay Parking Privatisation, Cite Public Interest Concerns
Four Pakatan Harapan MPs have urged the Selangor government to delay privatising public parking lots under the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) scheme. Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, representing the group, said the scheme raises legal, commercial, and operational concerns and appears to prioritise private interests over local councils (PBTs) and constituents. They called for an independent committee to review the proposal and full disclosure of its terms. The MPs criticised the proposed revenue-sharing model, which allocates 50% to the private concessionaire, 10% to MBI, and only 40% to PBTs, calling it lopsided. They urged a revision to prioritise Klang Valley’s mobility needs, integration with public transport, and walkability. The scheme’s August 1 rollout may be postponed.
