Opposition MP urges gov’t to assess effects of RON95 subsidy rationalisation

Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman urges the government to thoroughly assess the petrol subsidy targeting policy, considering its economic impact, implementation efficiency, policy transparency, and effects on the cost of living. He warns that unclear implementation could lead to unintended consequences and calls for clearer explanations from the government. The government, currently finalizing a targeted subsidy system for RON95 petrol, aims to implement it mid-year. Meanwhile, the Petrol Dealers Association (PDAM) has requested a delay until key issues like pricing margins and merchant discount rates are resolved. Syahir also raised concerns over unclear eligibility criteria and income classification.
