The CAAM will not impose fines for standing before seatbelt indicators, citing sufficient passenger compliance and safety.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) sees no need to follow Turkey’s lead in fining passengers who stand before the seatbelt indicator light is off after landing, as most passengers comply with regulations. CAAM has received no complaints but urges passengers to stay seated during taxiing for safety and to avoid disrupting cabin crew. Turkey recently announced fines for such behavior due to rising complaints. The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) supports a similar rule but notes CAAM holds the authority to decide, depending on the volume of safety violations reported.
