PTPTN: 30% of Loan Defaulters Are Having A Good Time Holidaying Abroad
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — About 30% of the 1.2 million National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters were found to be able to afford holidays abroad, said chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim. She said data matching with several agencies showed many borrowers have the means to repay but refuse to do so.
PTPTN’s arrears total RM11.18 billion, including RM5.25 billion owed by 359,000 borrowers who have never made payments. Norliza said travel restrictions should be imposed on high-income defaulters, especially those working abroad, as their failure affects PTPTN’s sustainability and future student funding.
