Ransomware attacks
Ransomware attacks against businesses in Southeast Asia (SEA) surged last year, with Kaspersky detecting 287,413 incidents. Experts urge organizations to bolster their IT security as ransomware evolves into double extortion tactics, targeting sectors across the region. Notable attacks hit various industries, underscoring the need for robust cybersecurity measures.
Kaspersky emphasizes the importance of comprehensive anti-ransomware solutions and supports victims through initiatives like No More Ransom.
To mitigate risks, Kaspersky advises proactive measures such as securing remote access, updating software, and implementing threat detection solutions. Additionally, employee training and access to threat intelligence are crucial for staying ahead of cyber threats.
“It’s evident that the threat actors behind ransomware attacks target all sectors in Southeast Asia. The total number of attempts may be lower, but organisations need to realise the real impact of each successful ransomware infection, both on the financial and reputation fronts.
It’s imperative for businesses here to look into cybersecurity technologies that provide absolute anti-ransomware effectiveness in third-party exams. Because not all cybersecurity solutions are created equal,” says Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia and Asia Emerging Economies at Kaspersky.
