Australia’s Labor Party plans to raise international student visa fees to A$2,000 (US$1,279) if reelected, up from A$1,600, to generate A$760 million over four years. This follows a fee hike from A$710 to A$1,600 last July. The opposition proposes even higher fees of A$2,500–A$5,000. International students, vital for university revenue, contribute to migration-driven housing cost increases. In February 2025, 200,000 students arrived, up 12.1% from last year. Labor aims to cap student commencements at 270,000 in 2025, while the opposition suggests 240,000. Australia’s visa fees already exceed those in the US ($185) and Canada (C$150).
