SARA RM100 One-Off Aid Seen as Catalyst for Retail Growth and Digitalisation
The government’s RM100 one-off Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid, available to all Malaysians aged 18 and above from Aug 31 to Dec 31, is expected to stimulate domestic spending while strengthening the retail ecosystem. Under Budget 2025, RM13 billion has been allocated for STR and SARA programmes, with RM2 billion specifically for the SARA cashless disbursement.
Mydin managing director Dr Ameer Ali Mydin said the initiative goes beyond short-term relief, acting as a stress test for Malaysia’s economic and retail resilience. He noted that since SARA’s introduction in 2023, over 4,000 retailers have enjoyed sales boosts of 15–20%.
He urged Malaysians, including M40 and T20 groups, to channel the aid towards local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), highlighting Mydin’s Kotak Rahmah filled with local products. The initiative also encourages digitalisation among retailers, shifting businesses from traditional to cashless systems, ultimately supporting wider economic sustainability.
