Thailand-Cambodia Border Clashes Enter Third Day, Death Toll Rises to 33
Fighting between Thailand and Cambodia continued for a third day on July 26, raising the death toll to at least 33 in what is now the bloodiest border conflict between the two nations in years. The clashes, triggered by a long-standing territorial dispute, began on July 24 and have involved jets, tanks, artillery, and ground troops.
Thailand’s navy joined its army to repel Cambodian forces after incursions in the eastern Trat province. Cambodia reported 13 deaths, including eight civilians, while Thailand confirmed 20 deaths – 14 civilians and six soldiers.
The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on July 25 amid escalating violence. Over 138,000 people have been evacuated from Thailand’s border regions, with more than 35,000 displaced in Cambodia. Phnom Penh is urging an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation.
