KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Malaysia is set to enhance its air defence capabilities with the acquisition of two additional Ground Master 400 alpha (GM400α) radars from French defence firm Thales, following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent official visit to France.
Thales announced it has received the official Letter of Award (LOA) for the supply of the long-range surveillance radars, bringing the total number of GM400α units deployed by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to four.
Renowned for their advanced early warning capabilities, the GM400α radars are already in service with over 20 nations. The system offers comprehensive threat detection with a range of up to 515 kilometres and delivers a reliable, real-time Recognized Air Picture (RAP), enabling faster response to potential threats in an increasingly complex airspace.
