A businessman with the title “Datuk” is expected to be charged on June 30 in connection with a viral video scandal involving alleged bribery over mining licences in Sabah. His lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, confirmed that the businessman was summoned to the MACC office in Putrajaya but was instead informed of the impending charge and later released on bail.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that three individuals — two Sabah assemblymen and one civilian — will face charges this month. MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the suspects are in the process of being formally notified to appear in court.
Azam noted that while controversial video footage circulated online allegedly shows discussions about bribery and misconduct, MACC’s investigation does not rely solely on the videos. A forensic report has already been completed, and other supporting evidence is also being considered. The case is now with the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
