SINGAPORE – A small home-based florist was left stranded after a bulk order worth nearly $4,000 failed to materialise.
On Sept 8, the business received what was described as a “government corporate order” for 150 small bouquets and four extra-large ones, scheduled for collection on Sept 10. The sum would have marked the florist’s biggest order to date.
As the two-person team could not fulfil the entire request in time, both parties agreed to scale it down to 50 bouquets for $1,100, to be paid in cash upon collection.
But when the collection day arrived, the buyer never showed up.
The florist eventually sold off the bouquets at a discount, recovering about $800 and making a modest profit of $200 – far less than expected. Several smaller orders had also been turned down to prioritise the bulk deal.
The business owners have not filed a police report, saying it was unclear whether the incident was a scam or simply an irresponsible customer.
