Gas Malaysia Bhd has received a Letter to Proceed (LTP) from the Energy Commission (ST) for its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal (RGT) in Yan, Kedah. The project, located off Pulau Bunting, is estimated to cost between RM2 billion and RM3 billion.
According to the company’s filing with Bursa Malaysia, the RGT Yan will operate as a floating storage and offshore regasification unit with a capacity of up to six million tonnes annually.
The approval is subject to several conditions set by ST, which Gas Malaysia must fulfill within a specified timeframe to ensure project progress.
The company noted that once completed and operational, the terminal is expected to contribute positively to its future earnings. The development underscores Gas Malaysia’s strategic expansion in LNG infrastructure, aligning with Malaysia’s broader energy diversification and supply security goals.
