JPJ: Appointing collection agents is not privatisation, just adding more service channels
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) stressed that appointing private collection agents, including recent addition Rider Gate Sdn Bhd, is not privatisation. Director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the practice began in 2016 with 10 agents (Pos Malaysia, MyEG, Puspakom, TNG etc.) to provide extra channels alongside official MyJPJ app and JPJ counters.
“Official channels remain 100% managed by JPJ. Agents only offer convenience with nominal fees,” he said. Motorists can still renew road tax directly without extra cost. Any qualified company can apply; appointments incur zero cost to government and follow Finance Ministry procedures. JPJ vows strict oversight to ensure data security and service quality.
