TS Lee Lam Thye advocates for a road safety culture to support ‘Vision Zero,’ aiming for zero road fatalities
Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, a Road Safety Council member, advocates for a road safety culture to support “Vision Zero,” aiming for zero road fatalities. He highlighted that from January to October last year, Malaysia recorded 532,125 road accidents, resulting in 5,364 deaths, averaging 14 fatalities daily or one every two hours. Motorcyclists accounted for 68% of these fatalities, with 16% being teenagers and 15% youths. Lee noted that stress, negligence, and overconfidence, particularly among young riders, contribute significantly to these accidents, as many disregard safety measures like wearing helmets, maintaining vehicles, or following speed limits.
