Malaysian Police Arrest 36 Bangladeshis Linked to IS-Inspired Militant Group

Malaysian police arrested 36 Bangladeshi nationals suspected of involvement in a radical militant group promoting Islamic State ideology, following Special Branch operations. The group allegedly set up recruitment cells to fund terrorism and conduct subversive activities. Five face terrorism-related charges under Malaysia’s Penal Code, as announced by Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on June 27, 2025. The arrests highlight a rise in foreign-driven militancy in Malaysia from 2022 to 2025, involving individuals from Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and others. Most are deported, while some are prosecuted locally to avoid risks abroad.
