Proton has launched the locally assembled Proton Saga in Egypt, marking 20 years of collaboration with its local distributor, Ezz Elarab Group. The launch follows the inauguration of the Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories (ESAF) CKD plant in Cairo, where the Saga will be assembled.
The event was attended by key government and industry leaders, including Malaysian and Egyptian officials. The Proton Saga, Malaysia’s first national car, celebrates its 40th year and has sold over 2 million units globally. In 2024, Proton’s export volume grew by 31.1%, with Egypt playing a crucial role in this expansion.
With a $50 million investment and a production capacity of 40,000 vehicles annually, the ESAF facility aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for industrial growth. Proton plans to focus on the Saga in Egypt while exploring the potential introduction of SUVs and NEVs in the future. Mass production is set to begin in Q1 2025, continuing Proton’s legacy in the Egyptian market.
