TikTok Job Scam: Malaysians Duped into Becoming Drug Mules with Promises of High Pay

Four Malaysians were arrested after authorities foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle 86kg of cannabis buds worth RM8.3 million into Britain. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the suspects, two couples in their 20s, were scheduled to fly from Penang International Airport to Manchester on Nov 3. The drugs were discovered in their luggage after one couple was denied boarding and their bags were rescanned.

TikTok Job Scam

AKPS said the suspects claimed they had accepted job offers through TikTok, promising salaries between RM8,000 and RM11,000 to carry goods abroad. Authorities believe they were being used as drug mules. The case has been handed over to the Malaysian Customs Department’s narcotics division for investigation. AKPS urged the public to be cautious of online job scams.
