ACCA Report Urges Integration of Sustainability and Financial Data for Organisational Resilience
A new report by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has stressed that integrating sustainability and financial information is critical for building resilient organisations. Released as COP 30 begins in Brazil, the “Sustainability reporting: Track your progress” survey revealed that only 53% of respondents have started creating or using sustainability data, while 39% have yet to commit. The study, covering over 1,000 respondents from 113 countries, found weak leadership commitment and inadequate systems as key barriers to effective sustainability reporting.
For Malaysian public listed companies, the findings coincide with enhanced reporting mandates under Bursa Malaysia’s National Sustainability Reporting Framework, which includes phased adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 standards. ACCA’s Andrew Lim said Malaysian firms must bridge capability gaps in systems and governance to meet compliance goals. The report recommends ten actions to help organisations better integrate sustainability data with financial performance.
