Crack down on those abusing Malaysia-China visa free rules

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing defended Malaysia’s 90-day visa-free entry policy for Chinese nationals, emphasizing its economic benefits for industries like hospitality and services. Addressing concerns about illegal activities by foreigners, Tiong called for stronger enforcement and public reporting rather than scrapping the policy. He dismissed blanket criticisms as irresponsible, noting the policy’s rigorous development. Tiong also refuted a misleading TikTok video suggesting a policy reversal, confirming an investigation with the Chinese Embassy. He urged responsible content sharing, stressing that the issue lies in exploiting loopholes, not the policy itself.

“Instead of casting doubt on the visa exemption, we must concentrate our efforts on enhancing enforcement and monitoring to curb misuse,” he said in a statement on his Facebook last night.
