PKR MP urges Madani to announce a stimulus package for SMEs

PKR MP Lee Chean Chung urged Putrajaya to announce an economic stimulus package during the May 5 special Parliamentary sitting, targeting SMEs amid global economic volatility and U.S. tariffs. He noted Malaysia’s sluggish 4.4% GDP growth in Q1 2025, below the 4.8% forecast, and U.S. GDP contraction. Trump’s 24% reciprocal tariff on Malaysia, alongside a 10% base tariff, was postponed for 90 days, but Lee said this only delays pressure. He proposed an SME Tariff Relief Fund, Export Market Adjustment Grant, and a six-month postponement of Sales and Services Tax expansion to boost SMEs.
