Singapore ministers K Shanmugam and Tan See Leng will face Bloomberg in court in April 2026 over alleged defamation tied to reporting on Good Class Bungalow property transactions dispute.
Defamation suits filed by Singapore ministers K Shanmugam and Tan See Leng against Bloomberg will go to trial in April 2026, following a dispute over a report on Good Class Bungalow transactions. Court schedules show hearings fixed from April 7 to April 16. The lawsuits stem from Bloomberg’s December 12, 2024 article, “Singapore Mansion Deals Are Increasingly Shrouded in Secrecy,” which referenced property purchases linked to both ministers.
Shanmugam and Tan argue the article falsely suggested they exploited gaps in transaction transparency to conceal their dealings, including possible money laundering concerns. They filed suits on January 6, 2025, after the government issued Pofma correction directions to Bloomberg and other outlets.
Bloomberg added corrections but rejected the direction, saying it stood by its reporting. The outlet and reporter Low De Wei deny defamation, stating the article alleged no wrongdoing. The ministers are represented by Senior Counsel Davinder Singh and legal teams.
